Sean played Rugby League for twenty years before getting into running with dodgy knees, he talks about starting as a road runner before transitioning into trail running. He chats about many of the famous trail races he has participated in including Glow Worm Tunnel, UTA and the Sydney Trail Series.
Working as a Personal Trainer, Sean talks about how he set up his running shop Runnulla in Cronulla with his wife Jen eleven years ago. He talks passionately about the sporting clubs and athletes they support in the community, including previous guests of the show Ali Najem, Scotty Richmond, Steve Redfern and Simone Hayes.
He chats about having Mark Webber in the store to promote his new running apparel Aussie Grit. He tells us a story about Mark getting hit by a 4WD in Tasmania during his own ‘Mark Webber Challenge’ adventure race.
He talks about the importance of analysing people’s gait to make sure they end up in the right shoe to prevent injury. Sean discusses how he sees a high percentage of people on the treadmill that are pronators. Sean also talks about shoe brands annually changing their models to make them lighter. He tells us how much mileage we should get from our shoes. He talks about the pro’s and cons of trail shoes. He also chats about the recent trend of carbon plate shoes such as the 4%ers.
The boys chat about the different ground reaction force between trail running and road running and the impact on the lower body. They talk about barefoot running and the side effects.
