Ep116 - Brett Robinson - Dual Olympian and Aussie Half Marathon Record Holder

September 15, 2022

This week Haddy checks in with the incredible Brett Robinson as he prepares for the upcoming London Marathon.

Brett holds Australia’s fastest Half Marathon title, and he’s the only Australian to break the 60-minute barrier, with his record of 59:57. Since emerging through the junior ranks as a top 1500m runner, Brett has developed into a world-class senior athlete, seeing him make finals appearances in the 5000m at both the 2013 World Championships and 2016 Rio Olympics. In recent years, he has shifted focus to the Marathon,  with a current personal best of 2:10:55 and another Aussie Olympic Jersey at the Tokyo Games.

Brett was a big part of the Ineos 1:59 run, taking the wind for the legendary Eluid Kipchoge and is the current Melbourne Marathon Champion.

Brett has been coached by the greats of Aussie distance running, Philo Saunders and Nic Bideau, but is also coaching a group of athletes for Pulse Running so his depth of knowledge is outstanding. We discuss all aspects of training and racing, from nutrition, psychology and pacing to how hard to hit the after party circuit!

We also chat about Brett's role as an ambassador for the Blackmore's Running Festival and it's tilt at the World Marathon Majors plus his desire to get muddy at next year's World Cross Country in Bathurst.
