Matt is joined with Co Host Paul Hadfield to interview Scotty Richmond.
Scott talks about his recent success at UTA100 where he finished an impressive 6th place in a time of 10:26. Scott also talks about his 3rd place at Surf Coast Century in 9:02.
Scott lost his 18-year-old cousin to Motor Neurone Disease and wanted to do something that was completely out of his comfort zone to raise funds and awareness for MND in his memory. He did his first UTA100 with just 11 weeks training and raised over $11,000!
He uses the memory of his cousin as motivation to get through these challenging ultramarathons.
Scott shares valuable advice about training, rest, programs, coaching and nutrition to be consistently racing well.

Michelle talks about weight loss affecting performance, racing on liquids vs real foods while competing in ultras and the optimal amount of caffeine you can consume during races.
She discusses the role of salts and other electrolytes during training and racing to prevent cramping, even pickle juice gets a wrap. Also mentioned is the role of carbohydrates and their benefits during high intensity workouts or other sessions requiring more concentration.

This unique gentleman has been running and racing in slippers for the past ten years with incredible results. It’s rare for Phil to run over 3hrs for a marathon in his slippers, he runs 81mins for a half marathon and has been known to run 30km to warm up on the way to his event!
Phil doesn’t have a car and commutes by slipper or scooter everywhere, consequently this prolific racer dominates the pointy end of many events throughout Sydney.
Age doesn’t seem to be slowing him down, he shares what he does on a regular basis to keep running up to 200km a week injury free.

Lou was a late starter to ultra-running, originally focussing on rock climbing and brewing beer (joking). She goes on to win some of the toughest ultra-races in the world and shares the journey with us.

Matt interviews running legend Dave Criniti.
Dave gives a lot of training and race preparation advice for Marathons. Dave has competed in the Cadbury Marathon in Tasmania four times, winning it twice, coming second once and third another time. Having a 2:17 PB from the Berlin Marathon, Dave has a lot of experience to share.
He also finished 2nd in the Six-Foot Track Marathon and talks about the love, hate relationship he has with that race.
Most importantly, Dave chats about the Run Beyond Project he founded and how this program is reaching out and helping school students that are less privileged.

This amazing young man opens up and shares his story about his good friend being shot dead when he was just 17 years old. He explains how that experience was life changing, he was at a cross roads in his life and he had to make a decision, continue hanging with the wrong crowd and end up in jail or dead, or find some stability in sport!
I’m looking forward to sharing how the adversity he faced when he was younger, has helped him to navigate his way through life. He went on to win three Australian titles for the 2km beach sprint and a world title.
On Sunday evening Ali ran 58km in the Red Bull Wings for Life, finishing 13th in the world and 3rd fastest Australian with an average pace of 3:50min per km.

Matt is joined with Co Host Michel Haenggi to interview Ultra Marathon Runner Ruud Kappert- Winner of Bogong to Hotham 2019
While in Australia, Ruud competed in four races, he won three of them and finished second in the other!
Ruud has only been competing for three years, he completed his first marathon in 2016 at the age of 26, a late starter!
Ruud talks about following races around the world as a lifestyle, he finds a race he wants to compete in, and he goes and lives in that location for a period of time to learn the culture and see the country. He talks about volunteer work; he works for accommodation and meals to cover his expenses while travelling.
Ruud shares his twelve-month trip across Australia, starting in Perth, making his way across the Nullarbor to Adelaide, then to Melbourne. He chats about working at a roadhouse for three and a half months in a remote location on the Nullarbor.
Ruud talks honestly about social media, finding Facebook antisocial, an excuse not to call or see people.

Matt is joined with Co Host Marty Rooke to interview champion runner Marty Keyes who didn’t start running until he was 27.
Marty shares a great story about nearly missing the birth of his first born son when he travels to do a marathon in Kempsey and his wife goes into Labour.
The boys review the new NORG Handicap course and results (just the winner). They chat about the physical hangover from the Six-Foot Track Marathon, the race that beats you up, with up to three weeks recovery needed. Marty talks about finishing in the top ten four times, while also identifying the race keeps throwing obstacles at him that makes racing it every year difficult.
Marty shares tips and advice including nutrition prior and during races, maintaining his fitness while he is injured, stretching to improve flexibility and footwear.
Marty talks about riding to Canberra with the Bushies over three days, then running the Canberra Marathon on the fourth day!

Simone recently had two wins back to back at the Tassie Trail fest (44km/22km). She also won the women’s team event at Mt Solitary with Kristen Brace.
Simone talks about her next challenge which is to qualify for the Australian 24hr track running team.
